Netflix streaming now on (a few) Android phones

Today, Netflix and Android scored more points in humanity's ongoing quest to be able to watch absolutely anything, anywhere, anytime--so long as you're using the right phone. Yes, the long-awaited Netflix app for Android finally showed up to the party today in the Android Market, but it apparently doesn't get along with everyone in attendance. In fact, Netflix says the app--which enables users to watch streaming movies--only runs on the following phones:

    • HTC Incredible with Android 2.2
    • HTC Nexus One with Android 2.2, 2.3
    • HTC Evo 4G with Android 2.2
    • HTC G2 with Android 2.2
    • Samsung Nexus S with Android 2.3.
But for those with one of the phones on the list, download the app and Netflix promises much of the same functionality as the iOS version, like being able to resume watching a movie or show where you left off on your TV or compute

I've never used Netflix before but one of the major attractions for me with a smartphone is being able to download and watch movies when I'm on public transport. Thanks for sharing this info, it is really useful.

Nice! The only problem I would have with that is that my bandwidth is really limited and a movie would throw it over in no time. But, maybe I can increase my limit.

I have a Netflix account and I'm really happy with the service. I think it's great that now you can use it some of the Android phones. I might check it out, though I never seem to have the patience to look at my phone long enough to watch something.

I would love to have Netflix on my phone!! Can't wait for Thunderbolt to be on that list!! I will try anyway. The downfall to having it on my phone would be that my kids would want to watch movies, but that would be more quiet time for me.

The bright side of course is that the kids would be blissfully quiet on long car journeys, right? Unless they start arguing about which movie to watch, then it gets all noisy again!

That is so cool! I have been waiting forever for them to bring it to the Motorola Droids, do hope it is sooner than later though!

Sadly I don't have one of those phone, but even if I did, does netflix actually load quickly on it? I've had some pretty bad results just trying to few youtube, can't imagine streaming from netflix would be any better.

Netflix loads just fine on 3g OR WIFI. I watched the latest Star Trek movie w/no buffering and no lagging straight through on 3G.
