Screenshots of leaked DROID RAZR ICS Build.

Feb 20, 2012 - 1:00 PM - by Chris
Chris's Avatar

Late last night, dragon974 from DroidRzr froums posted multiple screenshots of a leaked (looks nearly complete) build of ICS for the DROID RAZR.

As you can see from the screenshots, it's based off of 4.0.3, and system version 6.7.407.

In all honesty, I think Motorola did a decent job (if it stays this way). They did not go too far overboard, like some other
OEMs seem to be doing with ICS. Though the icons aren't great, it is a definite improvement over their Gingerbread skin.

As of now, the build has not been released to anybody other than the OP. But from the looks of it, it's release may not be to far off. Motorola says it's still in planning.

CyanogenMod needs our help; asking for community support

Feb 19, 2012 - 11:46 AM - by Timothy
Timothy's Avatar

Something we never expected to see, is CyanogenMod asking for some mula. If you have ever used CyanogenMod you know how godly awesome (is that a word?) it is. But it looks like they have ran into some trouble. They are looking for our support to purchase “a couple of solid, stable Xeon-class servers with large amounts of RAM and fast disks.” For the PayPal lovers they do have an account set up. CyanogenMod team says even a couple of bucks would help immensely. Another way that that is being done is charging money for each build that you want to install.

There is already many users offering to donate some servers instead of paying.

"I'm the MD of Bytemark Hosting in the UK, and noticed that you'd asked for donations for a CyanogenMod build farm. We have a few machines that would... [Read More]

LG announces the Optimus Vu; Dual-core wonderlord could be a better name

Feb 19, 2012 - 11:35 AM - by Timothy
Timothy's Avatar

Hot the press today (see what I did there?) is that LG has announced the Optimus Vu, ahead of Mobile World Congress. The device will have a 5″ HD IPS display with 4:3 aspect ratio, a powerful 1.5GHz dual-core processor, LTE, 8MP rear camera, 1.3MP front camera, and a 2080mAh battery. It will be running Gingerbread as well. And heres the kicker. It's just 8.5mm thick. Personally, I don't like square looking phones, or I may get some looks. But as long as LG puts hot women in their images, I will be OK with it...for now.

ASUS: Transformer will be getting Ice Cream Sandwich February or March

After the Prime has been having its treats with Ice Cream Sandwich, the Transformer is left starvin'. ASUS hopes to soon feed this beasts this coming February or March. Originally, it was planned for Mid-February (this week) but it looks like that plan was foiled.

ASUS:

Dear fellow Asus members, we would like to say that we appreciate all the support we see in our Asus Facebook page every day. It makes our contributions worthwhile and fulfilling.

We are informed that the ICS upgrade for TF101 will be ready within theFeb/March 2012 period. You will be able to receive the

Breaking: GSM Galaxy Nexus 32GB has been discontinued

Feb 15, 2012 - 6:49 PM - by Timothy
Timothy's Avatar

Is this the end of the GSM Galaxy Nexus 32GB flavor? While most of the world has been fine on selling the Nexus, Expansys, a US online retailed, made a statement today that Samsung will be canceling the 32GB GSM Galaxy Nexus model. Exyansys was notified by a Samsung rep, so take this one with a grain of salt, but I'm sure a shopping company would not be canceling the model if the Samsung rep was 'just blowing smoke' as they say. Verizon Wireless will still be selling the 32GB flavor, with a white 16GB version on the way. Is there something wrong with 32GB models? Or is this just temporary? While still waiting for an official announcement from Samsung, buyer beware, you will have a 16GB model only.

US Department of Justice Approves Google-Motorola Buyout.

Just hours after the European Union approved the Google-Motorola buyout, the US DOJ has done the same.

Quote:

After a thorough review of the proposed transactions, the Antitrust Division has determined that
each acquisition is unlikely to substantially lessen competition and has closed these three investigations.
Say hello to Googlerola. Now for some unlocked bootloaders for current Motorola devices...I can wish can't I?

Samsung Announces Galaxy Tab 2, Pre-loaded with ICS

Feb 13, 2012 - 2:39 PM - by Chris
Chris's Avatar

Samsung announced the Galaxy Tab 2 this morning, it is for the most
part the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus, only with Ice Cream Sandwich pre-loaded.

Not really sure why this tablet exists, with the Galaxy Tab 7.7 and 7.0 Plus already
released and with slightly less impressive specs, my only guess is it's a budget tablet.

Specs:
  • Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) with TouchWiz UX.
  • 7" WSVGA (1024×600) PLS TFT Display.
  • 8/16/32GB internal storage. (micro SD slot for expansion)
  • 1GHz dual-core processor.
  • 1GB RAM.
  • 3MP rear camera, VGA front facing camera.
  • 4,000 mAh battery.
  • HSPA+ 21Mbps, (850/900/1900/2100)
  • Bluetooth 3.0.

Editorial: Are bigger batteries in Android phones going to hurt, more then help?

Feb 11, 2012 - 2:02 PM - by Timothy
Timothy's Avatar

Don't hurt me on this one, just want to share what I think will happen once companies start incorporating big batteries. In general, Android is a very power hungry OS. It can really drain your battery fast if you are not careful what apps you keep open, what apps you allow to sync etc. Android over the years have had many updates, many patches, etc that help fix battery life. This is awesome. The more the OS is patched to conserve battery will only help not hurt. But whats the quick way to fix the problem? Throw a gigantic battery in there. Does that really fix the problem? In many eyes, it does, but does it really? Let me first start by saying that I am not a huge fan of custom skinned Android versions, but I won't bash them because the claim they take more power then stock Android is mostly false. But, depending on what the OEM adds, battery life... [Read More]

5.9.902 Update is A-Rollin' Out for DROID BIONIC

Feb 10, 2012 - 6:38 PM - by ekf028

What's this? ANOTHER update? After four long months with no attention, DROID BIONIC owners now have TWO updates within a couple of months of each other! Don't get too excited though, it's NOT Ice Cream Sandwich. It just has the usual fixes for data connectivity, battery life, visual voice mail (oh joy!), and of course....a couple of additions to the bloatware stable (Mog Music and Slingbox). This time Verizon has crossed the line with this as the two are merely video ads for a subscription to each of the two services. Check out the pretty picture for the rest and let's keep waiting for a taste of a delicious Ice Cream Sandwich.
